Christian On the Fence About Trump?

Consider Samson: The story of Samson is one of contradiction. God raised up Samson as a judge of Israel, but what kind of man was he? Endued with supernatural strength, but arrogant, self-willed, disrespectful to parents, a womanizer, but God used him to break the yoke of the Philistines. Samson allowed his lustful love for Delilah to be his downfall and yet in the end broke the power of the Philistines in a final act of revenge.

What has this to do with many Christians’ anti-Trump attitude? Well, God wanted Israel to return to him and raised up a man of great strength and cunning but who was a brash, arrogant, irreverent, womanizer. Not the pious, reverent, ever-forgiving, priestly type we think of as the person God uses to bring his people back into His bosom, the great statesman type able to overpower with rhetoric and reason and grace.

Does God want America to be the shining city on the hill of the world? The history of this nation, its founding, its growth, its rise to power, its effect on the standard of living of the entire world, the hate we have drawn over our concept of freedom, and our ofttimes lack of responsibility in sharing the blessings of that freedom shows a remarkable parallel to the history of Israel.

On June 28, 1787, in a plea to the delegates of a deadlocked Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin said, “The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: ‘that God governs in the affairs of men.’ And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?” I would add here that history proves beyond any doubt that no nation or empire can continue to stand without His aid.

God governs in the affairs of men. Donald Trump, this brash, often intemperate man with a less than stellar ‘Christian’ history has kept every campaign promise he has been able to keep. Our borders are being protected, everyone who wants a job can find one, the economy, trade, federal regulation, are all moving toward MAGA, Making America Great Again.

American History is not without stain! Many times our freedoms have been abused by those who have risen to power. Bigotry and racism are human weaknesses which are among the principalities and powers Christians are called to overcome, first within ourselves, then, as we are given voice and ability, within the world around us, our family, our circle of friends, our community and in the end our nation. There are those among us who would have us believe that the stains in our history define us. We cannot allow those people to have or maintain power! They are anathema to the American dream. I believe that it is overcoming those stains on America that define us.

If I was alone in this belief I could be dismissed out of hand. But I am not alone in it. Those who come to America seeking citizenship, take the classes, learn the language, yearn to take up freedom and the responsibility that goes along with it, those born here of American citizen parents and value freedom and the responsibility that goes along with it can Make America Great Again. But we must assume the responsibility to be informed voters who look to the preservation of our nation and not fall for for the short-sighted, destructive promises of those who would buy your vote.

Mr. Trump, for all his so-called failings and un-Christian history, has shown that he truly wants to bring back the America of the American dream. Is he perfect? Far from it! Was Samson? Not Hardly!! But God governs in the affairs of men. Perhaps we should not reject one who is doing his best to work for us, in search of some flawed, utopian ideal of perfect. If we do, I fear we will get exactly what we deserve. The idea of voting for the ‘lesser of two evils’ is a false paradigm! We are all sinners and therefore equal in the eyes of God.

Thank God He uses imperfect men to forward His perfect will! By their fruits you shall know them! Question: What are the fruits of the office of the President of the United States of America under Donald J. Trump. His whole life is not on trial. How he wields the awesome power of the office he holds is.

In for a Penny?

For those who missed the headline that SC Senate approved a bill banning all abortions: You know the Founders declared life to be an unalienable right endowed by our Creator; not only unalienable, but self-evident. They assumed that anyone with a brain could see and accept that as undeniable truth! The South Carolina senate just stripped the Founding statement of life as an inalienable right and made it subject to the whims of lawmakers. Its great that they approved a bill to ban all abortions, but don’t we already have law on the books concerning first degree, premeditated murder? Just what part of killing a full-term, living human being fails to qualify as first degree murder in the states that already allow it? What part of murdering any innocent human being for being inconvenient fails to qualify? Am I the only one who has looked at all the facts, used my God given reason and logic, and come to the inescapable conclusion that abortion is murder? Despite all the phony, self-serving arguments to the contrary, no matter what, bottom line, its murder. God forgive me for taking so long to say it.

Those Who Govern Best…

Mrs. Gillibrand is running for POTUS. She wants to do away with the Electoral College. She is anti-gun. She is pro tax-the-rich. All of which together make her part and parcel of the Democrat party’s elite way of thinking and expresses just what would happen to those of us who disagree because we know something of history.
History holds no example of government of any nation that has succeeded in protecting the rights of the individual after the individual has given up the right to defend themselves against governmental excess.

People seem to think the term ‘free state’ as used in the second amendment means the governmental entity that was set up to preserve freedom! NO! That is not what the framers were saying. What that meant was the state of individual freedom in which a person could keep or dispose of the fruits of their labor as they saw fit; the state of individual freedom that made it possible for a person to live or die in want or in plenty by the choices they made. Being that free in no way relieves us of the responsibility we have to our fellow man. In fact it makes us more responsible to share our blessings with the less fortunate.

When free men choose to raise up a government to take over those responsibilities, it follows as night follows day, that our freedom becomes forfeit, all at once or dribbling away over decades.

Americans may have largely forgotten that fact because they have forgotten history. We are no longer instilled with the truth by parents or teachers, that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, and suffer all the pain that forgetting so great a truth entails.  God have mercy on us if we who remember history fail to pass on truth to the next generation for it is they who will live in what we pass on, be it success or failure moving back toward true freedom or further into servitude and eventually outright slavery .

What Part of Infanticide…?

When will the states instituting abortion-on-demand laws just suck it up and revoke their recognition of the validity of the Declaration of Independence where it says:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

And when will we the people recognize the validity of it where it says:
— That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

When the state gives the unfettered power of life and death to a single person without recourse or appeal, it has abrogated its responsibility to protect the weakest among us. This is precisely what New York has done and Virginia, Vermont and others are doing. Giving a woman the unquestioned right to murder her child up to and including their moment of birth and possibly beyond is an abomination before God as well as an absolute rejection of the cornerstone of inalienable human rights upon which this nation was founded. 
We who care can no longer remain silent. The blood of millions upon millions of innocent children is is already on our hands! If we do not repent, more and worse atrocities will become enshrined as law. How will you answer when He asks how you worked for Him?

The American belief in the ‘unalienable right to life’ should in no way be viewed as exclusively post-partum! How is that paradigm of what America was founded to preserve wrong? How can the American conscience fail to be utterly revolted by legalized murder of any innocent person? Is it that our conscience has been so seared by convenience and self-serving that nothing else matters?  I see little to prove that is not the case.

When the morally reprehensible becomes crowned with legality, what can we who remain silent expect? Silence. Is. Consent.

Holiness

What is holiness? Holiness is knowing all that is unholy in every detail, then willingly and willfully without compunction or equivocation, rejecting all that is unholy and the emotional thought processes that lead to unholiness, for in that is eternal joy and peace.
