Occupy ‘Til I Come

Occupy ‘til I Come

PRAY that God will open your eyes and ears allowing you to think about what this says!

“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” – Dietrich Bonheoffer

When the next generation looks at the world we leave them, what will they see if they apply Bonheoffer’s test?

I want to thank Brother Ron for giving me the opportunity to bring the message today.   We will begin at Luke 19:12.   Please turn there and stand when you have found it.

19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

19:15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

19:16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

19:17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

19:18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

19:19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

19:20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

19:21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

19:22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

19:23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

19:24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

19:25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

19:26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

19:28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

May God Bless the reading of His Word.

If we continue, Luke describes the Triumphal Entry.  All 4 Gospels agree about the adulation Jesus received when He came into Jerusalem.  The multitudes said — Blessed is the King of Israel.  Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord,   Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:   Blessed be the kingdom of our father David,  Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

Remember what happened when Jonah, ALONE, went into Nineveh?  Within 3 days the whole profane city was Repenting in sackcloth and ashes!

Here we have a MULTITUDE coming into Jerusalem, THE CITY OF GOD, proclaiming the advent of the Messiah!  And on the 4th day the multitude was screaming CRUCIFY HIM!!!  And he was hung on a tree.

My wife and I were talking about the school curriculum—Common Core Standards—and how it is on computer with little or no parental access.

No need to burn books if the next generation of people can be convinced they are meaningless and irrelevant.  There is no real need for us to know history ourselves!  Someone else can keep track of that.  We just need to be able to make a living and be productive.  Work, play our games and watch TV.  Shake our heads at the sorry state of the world.  The Jews were too indifferent to God AS INDIVIDUALS, to know Him and HIS PLAN, and so the priests and the scribes were able to tell them what to believe, and manipulate them to do their bidding.   The Jews had gotten no better in the 1500 years since Moses.  Remember?  They looked at the smoke and lightening on the mountain and what did they say? YOU talk to Him Moses!!  Then come tell us!  We’ll listen to you!  Today we are no different! AS INDIVIDUALS, WE are too indifferent to study God for ourselves.  We let the priests and the scribes of today tell us what to believe.  Do you really think the priests and scribes of today, those who publish all the Sunday School material and VBS stuff, the NEW Improved Bible Translations, the Confessions of Faith, like the Baptist Faith and Message, teachers of evolution and revisionist historians, are so smart and spirit filled that there is no need for us to even try to know God ourselves? There certainly is no need for Christians to try to change the world if we are convinced that Christ could come back at any moment, is there?!  If we want to have ETERNAL LIFE all we have to do is A,B,C! Right?  Admit, Believe, and Confess and we’re good to go?   Why worry about spending resources and time and energy on informing ourselves and reforming our families, our nation, and our government, when we know that there is going to be a great falling away, anyway!  I mean it’s foreordained so why fight it!!  Surely God doesn’t want us to engage in such conflict!  Isn’t all that fuss UN-Christian?  If we really believe, we don’t have to have a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP, do we?

In the next few minutes I would like you to join me in an exercise in critical thought.  Are you ready?  Okay!  IS God Omnipotent?

DINOSAURS-not one single complete series of fossils from old to newer. Could God have made them a picture of eternal death in His formation of earth? You don’t have to agree, you can call me crazy!  Just remember that all the evolutionists and archeologists and paleontologists have is a THEORY and personally I think my THEORY is just as good as THEIRS!  It certainly does NOT take away God’s existence, omnipotence, or disagree with a literal 6 day creation.  Didn’t the plan for a 24 hr day preceded its creation!

Remember that ALL of Creation is a revelation of the nature and CHARACTER of God and HE created us TO SHARE ETERNITY WITH HIM!  Should we enter blind, deaf, dumb and ignorant? Should we even think we CAN?  Or should we glorify Him by doing all we can, ALL we can, to get to KNOW Him? Thomas Jefferson said “Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.”  Personally, I agree.  I have read God’s Word and so did Jefferson, regardless of what the revisionist historians have tried to make us believe!

OCCUPY UNTIL I COME!  Revisit Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.  What did he mean?  Well…

(1)to be busy (2)to be engaged (3)to take or hold possession (4)to hold or use (Lk 19:16-17)  Til I Come –  In this parable it is obvious that Jesus was not happy with the one who simply held his talent, wrapping it in a napkin and making no USE of it.  When asked by one of His disciples about what another should do, Jesus said in John 21:22 If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.  It is Christ who sets our course.  Let me be concerned more with the course He sets for ME than I am in watching another!  At Judgment, by what standard will I be judged?  The actions of another or MY OWN?

Let’s go to Matthew 7 beginning at verse 18:

7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the

kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

He speaks here of the wise or the foolish MAN—SINGULAR, not MEN plural, not church, not nation, not even family but the individual.  Oh, and when this was written, man in the generic, individual usage as it is in this passage included woman.  So NO ONE is off the hook!   Spend TIME with Him; getting to know the provider of eternal life to all those whose faith is in HIM!  Meditate on His Word as David did!  THINK about the reason we have celebrated the life of this man Jesus for 2000 years!  You celebrate because HE DIED for YOU!  NOT the nation!  NOT the church corporate! YOU!  Because if He didn’t die for YOU, the consequences for YOU are dire!  Are you seeking to know Him as He has revealed Himself, or only as you WANT Him to be?  Have you spent any time at all REALLY trying to understand what He did when He created us IN HIS IMAGE!  Or do you think that is way above your pay grade and unnecessary as long as you believe in Jesus?  On the day you stand before Him, will you be welcomed or will you be turned away?  Will the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God Incarnate, Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, welcome you home?  One final question:  Do you accept any responsibility for your own discipleship?  That is, the Great Commission says: 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Baptize means IMMERSE.  Explain Immerse…  Explain Colon after Holy Ghost…  If you have nagging doubts about what you have been told to believe, have you stretched yourself to the breaking point to try to get GOD’S WISDOM on the issue?  Or is it just too hard?  Do you think His reassurance that He will lead us into all TRUTH is essentially what Jesus has in mind when He promised “lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

God NEVER intended our faith to be blind or uninformed.  That’s why he gave us the glory of the heavens AND His Word, so we could KNOW HIM!  Personally!  He ALONE is the way.  No one comes to the Father but by Him!

Please bow your heads and close your eyes and think about His work in your life.  If you have not made a pubic profession of faith in Jesus Christ, take that step today.  No one is guaranteed tomorrow.  As we have our hymn of invitation, come forward yourself or pray fervently for your loved ones who need His grace in their lives.

There is no other name under Heaven through which eternal life comes.  Come forward and ask Him to live through you so others, even your enemies, can SEE His love so clearly it cannot be denied.  Lord, God I believe, help Thou my unbelief!  No one knows how close Jesus will get to them until they see how close they can get to Him; even if it’s only close enough to touch the hem of his robe.

Declaration of American Rights and Responsibilities

In August of 2011, Glenn Beck posted his Declaration of American Rights and Responsibilities.  I certainly hope he will forgive me for posting this edited version, but I believe our culture today may need the clarity!

As Edmund Burke said, “all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” We must DO something. Stand watch. Speak up. Become involved.

Among the responsibilities to which we must adhere to maintain our God given rights are honor, courage and vigilance; and now, the time has come to take a stand by exhibiting these traits – honor, courage and vigilance.

What is honor? It is being honest in all of our dealings. It is showing loyalty and fairness, and being a beacon of integrity in all our beliefs and actions. It is showing respect for others.

Ruth honored Naomi when she told her that she would not leave her. That she would go wherever Naomi went, that she would live where Naomi lived and die where Naomi died. Her God would be Naomi’s God.

Courage is the ability to face danger, criticism or scorn – not without fear, but while overcoming fear to deal with that which comes our way.

When no one else in the Kingdom wanted to face the mighty giant, Goliath, young David was willing. David must have felt fear at the sight of his foe, but overcame it, and courageously vanquished his enemy.

Vigilance is being watchful for all forms of treachery and tyranny, lies and deceit.  LISTEN for the person in the watchtower, waiting all night, suddenly sounding the alarm that the enemy is coming. The careful observer of the markets and economies who proclaims to the world, all is not well, there is trouble ahead and the outspoken critic of the powerful, going against societies’ grain, warning that all is not as we’re being told. These are the vigilant.

We implore all people to stand with these characteristics – honor, courage and vigilance.

To that end, we must restore honor in our own lives. Seek after the truth. Declare right now, that no longer will we simply accept what is told us by the media or anyone else.

The media has the responsibility to tell the truth, we have the responsibility to learn it; NOT just accept what they SAY!

Stand with courage, even if it means the end of our jobs, the end of our positions in life…or even the end of our very lives.
We must have the courage to be peaceful, while recognizing the courage to actively defend and respond to threats and/or attacks when necessary is every bit as vital to protect what the Founding Fathers wanted US to enjoy and pass on to OUR children!

Turn the other cheek WHEN POSSIBLE.

We must be vigilant. We must think the unthinkable. The holocaust occurred because no one could imagine it, but evil never sleeps, and neither must we.

Political correctness has polluted our language and clouds our every discussion.

What was once accepted as good and right, is now considered bad and evil, and that which was bad and evil is now presented to the world as good and decent.

Opposing thoughts or opinions are referred to as crazy, insane, non-factual and utterly without merit. Furthermore, we are told, they should not even be heard.

The media, politicians and large institutions both academic and political have been lying to us, and we MUST demand the truth be told.

With that demand, comes the responsibility that we tell the truth first, in ourselves. Too many of us delegate our responsibility to the media…and too many believe there is no personal responsibility at all.

Men want to be king, and the more we concentrate on our rights and the more we are told not to worry about our responsibilities, the more we lose our rights.

Just as physics show, for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction. The time has come to declare that at least for the western world human rights are generally accepted and moving in the right direction however a new movement is required — a movement of human responsibility.

As the American Declaration of Independence clearly states, when in the course of human events it becomes necessary for people to band together and collectively declare their rights to which the laws of nature and nature’s God entitle and bind them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should disclose the causes which impel them to such.

Therefore let us declare that we still hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. BUT, with those rights come responsibilities.
In order to continually experience life, liberty and happiness as promised, nature’s God demands obedience to His law to protect those rights. This is where we have fallen short and therefore, in order not to lose the blessings of freedom, the citizens of the United States of America must turn from the sole focus on rights, and recognize the inherent and required responsibilities that we have.  Early in our history, the exercise of those responsibilities made us the light of the world; the beacon of freedom!

Over time, we believe that these basic human responsibilities have been trampled, and replaced with degradation, fear and apathy.

But when a long train of abuses of the people and conscience by the media and by other segments of society, pursuing the same path of reducing them to ridicule, scorn and even sub-human status, it is the right of the people, AND it is their DUTY, to peacefully, but vehemently take a stand.

Thus, we the people do hereby declare not only our rights, but do now establish this

1. Because I have the right to choose, I recognize that I am accountable to God and have the responsibility to keep the 10 commandments in my own life.

Corollary:  TRAIN up our children to do the same!

2. Because I have the right to worship as I choose, I have the responsibility to honor the right of others to worship as they see fit, as I provide the EXAMPLE OF CHRISTLIKENESS IN MY LIFE!

3. Because I have freedom of speech, I have the responsibility to defend the speech of others, even if I strongly disagree with what they’re saying.  Without giving the impression that UNTRUTH SHOULD GO UNOPPOSED!

4. Because I have the right to pursue happiness, I have the responsibility to show humility and express gratitude for all the blessings I enjoy and the rights I’ve been given  for such is part of the worship of God.

5. Because I have the right to honest and good government I will seek out honest and just representatives when possible. If I cannot find one then I accept the responsibility to take that place for such is my responsibility to my fellow man.

6. Because I have the God given right to liberty, I have the personal responsibility to have the courage to defend others as they also should be secure in their persons, lives and property for such is the proclamation of the GOSPEL .

7. Because I have the right to equal justice, I will stand for those who are wrongly accused or unjustly blamed, for such is the LOVE OF CHRIST.

8. Because I have the right to knowledge, I will be accountable for myself and my children’s education…to live our lives in such a way that insures the continuation of truth because Christ IS the truth!

9. Because I have the right to pursue my dreams and keep the fruits of my labor, I have the responsibility to feed, protect and shelter my family, the less fortunate, the fatherless, the old and infirm because that is CHRISTLIKE!

10. Because I have a right to the truth, I will not bear false witness nor will I stand idly by as others do, such is the COURAGE OF CHRIST.

Unconditionally, while maintaining my responsibility to compassionately yet fiercely stand against those things that decay the natural rights of all men. And for the support of this declaration, and with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence we mutually pledge to each other our lives, fortunes and sacred honor.

Without honor the pledge of anything is meaningless; words of convenience for personal gain. Time was when a man’s word was his bond.  A piece of paper merely records for posterity the value of a man’s word.  Each of us MUST think about what our word means before we give it.
